The journey

A closer look at the route

When winter snows cover the High Atlas from December to April, the mountains transform into a rare and largely undiscovered paradise for ski tourers. With certified mountain and ski guide Youssef Azdour, these tours combine long skins-on ascents, overnight stays in mountain refuges and gîtes, and descents on untracked powder through Berber valleys that summer trekkers never reach.

Routes are adapted to the conditions and the group's level — from day tours around Imlil to multi-day traverses reaching 4,000m+. Good fitness and at least intermediate skiing ability are required; equipment can be rented locally in Imlil for anyone travelling light.
